When your dad and uncle own the bank you’ve just started working for, you might expect a little preferential treatment.

But Warren Stephens, who began his career at his family-owned investment bank Stephens in 1981 after completing an MBA from Wake Forest University, says his first job was at a desk “in the hallway, facing another person’s glass-fronted office with the curtains drawn”.
