Few pieces of European legislation have been as hotly debated as a revised version of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive.

Mifid II will usher in sweeping reforms to trading practices across Europe when it takes effect in 2017, ranging from limits on dark pool trading, transparency rules across asset classes and tougher oversight of high-frequency traders.
