If there is a criticism of the pensions industry, it is that in dealing with the issues of its past it has not paid enough attention to its future.

That future has now arrived. The pensions industry must face it squarely and get on with it. In less than a year, the 2012 reforms - auto-enrolment for millions of workers into a pension scheme for the first time - will get under way.
