Former attorney general Sir Geoffrey Cox has hit the headlines in a big way this week thanks to revelations that he has been paid more than £800,000 by City law firm Withers in the past year.

With the government already dealing with the fallout from its failed attempt to protect former cabinet minister Owen Paterson from suspension for breaching lobbying rules, the extent of Cox’s legal work has now landed him in hot water.
