Banking sources confirmed today that Guy Whittaker, group treasurer at Citigroup, is set to be appointed as the new finance director at Royal Bank of Scotland. Whittaker has been with Citigroup for 25 years.

He is to replace Fred Watt who will step down when RBS announces its results next February.
